Meet Our Team
GADP was created and is sustained by a knowledgeable and dedicated team of individuals from all over the world. This team guides the direction of the organisation to ensure that GADP delivers well-informed, sustainable and effective development of global anaesthesia services.





Dr Lesley Crichton

Chief Executive Officer
Lesley is a consultant in Anaesthetics and Critical Care, based in NHS Tayside, Scotland. She is Remote Educational Supervisor for the Royal College of Anaesthetists, Electives lead at the University of Dundee, and was Vice Chair of the GADP board of trustees before moving to the role of Chief Executive. She has a Master’s degree in Global Health.
Lesley lived in Zambia with her family for two years from 2017 – 2019, where she worked with her Zambian colleagues to help support development of anaesthesia training in the country. She continues to be actively involved in teaching, assessment and faculty development from a distance.
Dr Craig Oranmore-Brown

Chair of Board of Trustees
Craig is an Anaesthetic and Critical Care Consultant in Cumbria, where he also chairs the Medical Staff Committee. Originally from South Africa, he completed his medical degree and a four-year rural medicine training programme before moving to the UK to complete dual training in Anaesthetics and Critical Care. During this time, he taught at a medical school in Grenada (Caribbean) and worked as a Pre-hospital Care Registrar with London Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS). After qualifying, Craig worked in Norwich as a Consultant in acute medicine, ICU, and anaesthetics, helping establish one of the first acute medicine front-door HDUs.
He and his wife Rae later founded Mercy Flyers, a charity delivering surgical care to the most remote parts of Zambia. After clearing the national backlog in key specialties, Craig shifted focus to developing the country’s ICU capacity – establishing a national ICU nursing diploma, supporting ZADP’s teaching, and at the government’s request, establishing the national Ambulance service from scratch, including the paramedic college.
Craig’s vision for GADP is to foster a strong sense of team spirit among its members, united by the goal of helping those who aspire to become excellent anaesthetists. By teaching those who care for others, we can improve the lives of thousands of patients around the world.
Dr Jayne Sutherland

Secretary, GADP Trustee
Jayne is a Paediatric Anaesthetic Consultant in the Children’s Hospital for Wales. She spent 6 months of her OOPE working as a senior teaching fellow in Zambia and was lucky enough to support anaesthesia training in Lusaka, the Copperbelt and Zimba during her stay. Since returning to the UK she has continued to support friends and colleagues in Zambia through distant mentorship and remote teaching opportunities and working as a Trustee for GADP.
Eucabeth Migan CPA

Treasurer, GADP Trustee
Eucabeth is a UK-based accountant originally from Kenya, with professional experience across accounting, auditing, and financial management. She is a qualified CPA-K (Certified Public Accountant of Kenya) and has worked extensively in financial reporting, budgeting, internal audit, and regulatory compliance within the cooperative and housing sectors.
Eucabeth is currently completing an MSc in Accounting and Finance at the University of Surrey. She brings a strong interest in nonprofit governance, financial sustainability, and healthcare-related development initiatives, supporting GADP’s work to strengthen access to safe anaesthesia care through robust financial oversight.
Dr Atakiltie Baraki

GADP Trustee
Ataklitie from Ethiopia has dedicated 36 years to the medical profession. He holds an MD, a specialty in General Surgery, and a subspecialty in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery from Addis Ababa University, along with a Professional Diploma in Clinical Leadership from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Currently a consultant Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon at Addis Ababa University and ALERT Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Dr. Baraki has collaborated with the Ministry of Health and provided over 6,000 free cleft lip and palate surgeries with Smile Train. He has received numerous accolades, including the 2022 Outstanding Clinical Service award from Ethiopia’s Federal Ministry of Health.
Dr. Baraki is a founding member, master trainer, and Country Representative for Ethiopia at the College of Surgeons of Eastern, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA). He has also served as president of the Ethiopian Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons’ Society and is currently the president of the Surgical Society of Ethiopia. Additionally, he is a trained artist and self-taught photographer, with interests in music, humanities, and medical humanities.
Tom Gray

GADP Trustee
Tom is an Innovation and Strategy Consultant, originally from South Africa, now based in London. He is Chief Strategy Officer and Board Member for The Imagination Group, a global design consultancy; an Associate of the Imperial College Business Design Studio; and an Expert in Residence at the Imperial Enterprise Lab where he advises start-ups, scale-ups and non-profits on strategy, product, brand and marketing.
Dr Angel Phiri

GADP Trustee
Angel is a consultant Anaesthesiologist at the University Teaching
Hospitals, Women and Newborn Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia. He has more than 10 years of clinical teaching experience, both medical and paramedical
students. He currently serves as an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Zambia School of Medicine
and Apex Medical University. Born in Zambia’s Eastern Province, Angel now lives in Lusaka with his wife and their four children. Outside of work, he enjoys gardening and listening to music.
Dr Nathan Oates

Dr Mack Kalenga

ZADP Director
Dr Mack Kalenga is a Paediatric Anaesthesiologist and Honorary Lecturer at the University of Zambia in Lusaka. He is passionate about improving perioperative care through clinical practice, teaching, quality improvement, and the development of anaesthesia standards of care. He serves as Treasurer of the Society of Anaesthetists of Zambia, where he supports advocacy efforts and the development of perioperative policies.
His other main interests include simulation-based training, regional anaesthesia, and advanced airway management. He has led and contributed to several local and national efforts focused on strengthening anaesthesia services and building workforce capacity in Zambia. His work has been recognised with awards such as the SAZ and WFSA Rising Star Awards.
Dr Kalenga is especially committed to training the next generation of anaesthesia providers and improving access to safe, high-quality surgical and anaesthesia care across Zambia and the region. Outside of theatre spaces, Dr Kalenga is an avid photographer and futsal player.
Dr Nathan Betteridge

ZADP Assistant Director
Nate is a Consultant Anaesthetist at Manchester Royal Infirmary, part of the Manchester NHS Foundation Trust. Passionate about medical education, he serves as the co-clinical tutor lead for years 1 & 2 of the Medicine program at the University of Manchester, playing a role in implementing new academic changes and delivery of the MBChB curriculum. Additionally, Nate is dedicated to global health initiatives and recently became a Co-Director of the Zambia Anaesthetic Development Program, having previously served as a senior fellow for ZADP in 2020 and 2022. His clinical expertise includes major general and gynae-oncology surgery, with a special interest in regional anaesthesia and the education of applied clinical anatomy.
Dr Emma Coley

Emma took part in ZADP as a senior trainee in 2015, spending 6 months working in the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka. Having been involved in teaching and recruitment since her return, Emma was subsequently appointed as ZADP Co-Director. In 2018 Emma introduced military trainee placements to the program. She represents GADP and the military on the Global Partnerships Committee at the Royal College of Anaesthetists. In an education role Emma is Deputy Regional Advisor for Defence Anaesthesia.

Dr Hannah Phelan

Hannah is an ST7 Anaesthetic Registrar in South East Scotland, having trained at the University of Bristol and worked in Somerset for her foundation years. In addition to her anaesthetics training, she completed a diploma in Tropical Medicine and Public Health at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Hannah taught for ZADP as an in-country fellow for six months and a remote fellow for one year. She has a particular interest in airway management, focusing on anaesthesia for difficult airways and the teaching and training of airway skills. She is also passionate about global health, particularly the logistical challenges and the bidirectional learning opportunities that arise from working within a global health partnership.
Dr Helen Williams

ZADP Committee Member
Helen is an ST6 trainee in Anaesthesia & Intensive Care Medicine in the South-West Peninsula. She has had an interest in global health since medical school, with student placements and volunteer roles in Zambia, Samoa, and Madagascar. In 2022 she undertook a 6-month OOPE as a senior fellow with ZADP, working in Lusaka and Ndola. Since returning to training in the UK she has continued to support the program through a committee role (advocating for training in Ndola, as well as support with grants and fundraising for the charity), and making the occasional appearance delivering remote teaching.

Gwen Gonya Williams

ZADP Committee Member, Program Coordinator
Gwen has been the ZADP Program Coordinator since 2019, based in Lusaka, Zambia. In this role, she coordinates volunteer visits through Global Anaesthesia Development Partnerships (GADP) and the Global Academic Anaesthesia Consortium (GAAC). Gwen holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Operations, Projects & Supply Chain Management from the University of Zambia. Her professional interests include planning, logistics management and also more recently grant management. In conjunction with her ZADP role, Gwen works as Administrator for the Society of Anaesthetists of Zambia, contributing to the advancement of anaesthesia practice in the country.
Dr Omar Ahmed

EADP Director
Omar is an Anaesthetic Registrar based in London and has been actively involved with EADP both in-country and remotely since 2021. His time in Addis Ababa provided invaluable experiences, and he is passionate about giving back and supporting the growth of anaesthesia services in Ethiopia. Outside of work, Omar remains convinced that Ethiopian coffee is the best in the world!
Dr Anna Janowicz

Anna is a Consultant Anaesthetist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals. Her interest in global health started in medical school when she got involved in advocacy for healthcare access for refugees and also travelled to Ghana and Thailand for her electives. In 2015 Anna went to Lusaka for six months to support MMed Anaesthesia Program as a ZADP fellow. She taught on SAFE courses in Zambia, Nepal and India. She has also completed an MSc in Global Health with Health Professions Education at King’s College London.

Dr Talitha de Vries

Talitha is a specialty registrar in anaesthetics and intensive care medicine in Oxford, United Kingdom. She studied medicine at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, graduating in 2013. In 2019 she spent six months in Addis Ababa as the first senior global anaesthesia development fellow, helping to set up a simulation program and an anaesthetic novice training program for the local residents. She has an interest in paediatrics, having done a year in paediatric ICU and retrieval and helping develop the digital SAFE paeds course, as well as in sustainability. Outside of work, Talitha enjoys travelling and spending time in the outdoors.

Haramaya University department former head of Anaesthesiology, Aman established a new residentship in Anaesthesia, expanded existing ICU & handling pandemic in the country during Covid19. Aman currently teaches more than 16 residents from 1st -3rd year.
