Our Overseas Healthcare Leadership Programme (OHLP) is a novel four-week training scheme developed for newly qualified consultants from low and middle-income countries to provide focused leadership training from multiple specialists and leading UK organisations, including the National Health Service, World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists, British Association of Urological Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons.

Training is provided in the clinical environment, through lectures, interactive workshops, seminars and clinical simulation training covering the following:

  • An overview of the NHS
  • Clinical leadership training including systems of leadership, systems of change, education tools including simulation and debriefing
  • Operational leadership training including systems of patient safety, root cause analysis, problem solving, finance, coding, procurement and clinical director roles
  • Project management skills
  • Training in advocacy and influencing policy-makers

Participants are mentored in developing a quality improvement project for their home institution and receive ongoing support once they return home to lead this project.

This program is currently run in collaboration with Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the UK. We are developing this training program as a model for other NHS trusts.  If your trust is interested in running an overseas healthcare leadership program, please contact us at info@gadpartnerships.com
